Little Black Dress

So I have been going through my closet, trying to mentally prepare myself for our inevitable move in 3 months and realized that I have SO many clothes.

Among all those clothes 27 skirts!
And I am not even going to tell you how many dresses I have.
Ridiculous right?
I know.

But in my defense I have made at least 7 and have found half of the rest at thrift stores.
Still that is a lot.
And a lot of my dresses and skirts are from high school. I have a serious issue with throwing things away. (one reason why I am dreading this move so much)

One of my dresses is zebra print.
Not sure what I was planning on doing with that one.
Another one (black), I had only worn once.
Sad huh? Poor dress.

I have to throw it away. My mom would be mortified. I have been holding onto a dress for 4-5 years! But the idea of it is so cute, I can't just throw away a perfectly good dress that I won't ever wear....
...So while justifying why I still need it (to avoid wasting a dress)
I came to the magical solution of using it to make a dress for my daughter.

I think it turned out pretty good.
I figure if I don't like it on her, I can just toss it.
I don't have as many issues with throwing away her clothes.

Do you have any clothes you can't part with but never wear?

Hope to see you around!

Laundry Bag Dress

This dress is made out of a laundry bag.
I fell in love with the stripes and had to find a way to turn it into a dress.
2.00 for the laundry bag (thrift store).
I added a ruffle from some scrap fabric and a zipper down the back.
My first zipper and it is not very good but it will work for now.

Maybe I should be pocahontas for halloween?

(I have pictures of my process if anyone is interested in a tutorial. let me know.)

Red, White & Blue Ruffle Dress

I made this ruffle dress for the 4th of July.
I had been wanting to make a ruffle dress for my daughter for forever and couldn't get this design out of my mind.
I didn't have a pattern for it, so I tried to make it about the size of one of her other dresses and winged the ruffle part.
I absolutely love it! I can't wait to make her another one for next year.

Turned out pretty good huh?

I just love her little chub.

T-Shirt Dress

For lack of a better name this is the T-shirt Dress. (Any ideas on a better name?)
I got this idea from another blog (can't remember the name, sorry) and decided to put my own twist to it.
I loved the idea of just attaching fabric to a shirt. So simple and perfect for those days when I feel like getting dressed up but don't want to make a huge effort.

My only problem with the pattern was that the fabric I wanted to use had absolutely no stretch, while the shirt had plenty. SO...I added little elastic strips on both sides to allow me room to get my shoulders through the waist.

I have loved the results! All together I think this dressed cost $13.00 to make.
Not that great, but I fell in love with this fabric before I saw the price.

Hope to see you around!

Sewing - Baby Girl Dress #1

I love to sew.
Especially dresses for my daughter and me.

Dresses are magical and always make me feel happy.
"Put on your Sunday clothes when you feel down and out.."
(Can you name that movie?)

Here is the first of three I have made.

Yellow ruffles.
Stay tuned for the next two.

Hope to see you around.
